“Ivan… I stepped on this box on the floor. I nearly tripped on it on the way to the bathroom. Were you trying to surprise me?”

It must’ve fallen out of his pocket when she stripped off his clothes, he thought, but he replied quickly, because he didn’t want her to think he had doubts, “Yes.”

“Were you going to ask me to marry you, tonight? That’s why you’ve been acting so strange.”

He nodded slowly, afraid to say no.

She kissed his lips as tears rolled down her face. “I love you and yes I’ll marry you.”

He looked at the clock again. He had to see Candace and quick before throwing down his player card for good. “Are you thirsty?” he asked changing the subject.

“I’m fine.”

“I’m going downstairs to the lounge for a little while. You sure you don’t want anything?”

“Positive.” She admired the ring as she curled up underneath the covers.

He got out of bed. “I’ll be right back.”
